Full-Day Wine Tasting, Lunch and River Cruise in the Douro Valley from Porto

See the best of the Douro Valley with a small group and be guided by an expert in the region. Visit a Port wine producer, a boutique winery, take a river cruise and enjoy a traditional lunch. Pick up and drop off at your hotel in Porto. Taste Port, wine, olive oil and honey!

8.30 am: Your friendly guide for the day will pick you up from your accommodation in the centre of Porto. Climb aboard your comfortable minivan for the day and set off for the Douro Valley!

Winery visit: After a picturesque drive from Porto to the heart of the Douro Valley, you will arrive at your first destination of the day; a Quinta da Roêda. This renowned Port wine producer is part of the famous Croft brand and a long established Port house in the Douro Valley. 

Your visit will start with a guided tour of the vineyards and end in the lagares room where the whole process of making the famous Port wine will be explained. Learn about the process from the harvest, through to the vinifcation and the ageing in the barrel room. Your tour will conclude with a guided tasting of the estate’s Port wine accompanied by a careful selection of Portuguese cheeses. 

River cruise: After your tasting it will be time for the short trip to the village of Pinhão where we will embark on a 1 hour boat ride on the Douro River. This is the perfect way to see the beauty of the Valley as the port wine producers would have done in the past as they transported the barrels along the river to Porto. Relax in the calm waters of the Douro River and contemplate the landscape and nature of the Douro Valley.

Lunch: Arriving back in Pinhão, your guide will take you onwards for lunch which will be served in a typical Portuguese restaurant. You will have the choice of delicious dishes of meat, fish or vegetarian, accompanied by white and red wine and port wine for dessert. Everything is included in the price.

Winery visit: After lunch it’s time for your second winery visit of the day. This time it is to a boutique wine producer. Enjoy a warm welcome at Quinta dos Castelares, an organic wine producer which also produces organic olive oil and honey. On your tour of the winery, your guide will explain the difference between entry level and premium wines and the differences within the techniques of winemaking. Your visit will end with a tasting of their wines as well as their olive oil and three different types of honey (rosemary, chestnut and heather). 

Scenic drive: No tour of the Douro Valley is complete without stops to see the best panoramic views. We will take a scenic route back towards Porto where we will stop for some incredible photos of the Douro Valley! 

5.30 pm: After a wonderful day exploring the best of the Douro Valley your guide will drop you back in the centre of Porto at your accommodation.
