Discover Rioja, its history and diversity and enjoy winery visits and wine tastings with this full-day wine tour.
Visit Bodegas Marqués de Muerrieta, a winery linked to the origins of the Rioja wines since Luciano Murrieta produced in 1852 the fist Rioja wine. He was also the first to export his wines. Your host will guide you through the history of the family visiting the vineyards and the amazing winery. Enjoy a wine tasting of three wines paired with tapas in a crystal room overviewing the ancient barrels.
Right after the visit you will drive to Laguardia town, a medieval town built over a smal hill in the X century as a defense from Castilleans and Muslims with amazing views of the whole Valley of Rioja.
Enjoy a delicious lunch paired with wine in one of the top restaurants in the area.
In the afternoon, Francis, the winemaker of Tritium winery will greet you in his winery to show you around his recent renovated winery from the XV century. Francis is the 6th generation of wine growers in his family and owns vineyards that are 100 years old, from which he makes very singular wines. His technique is spotless! You will learn a lot from him and taste small production great wines!
The tour ends with another wine tasting called "Rioja Alta versus Rioja Alavesa". Rioja is a more diverse area than you think and knowing the differences will help you to understand a bit more about the wine apellation.
