4 Last Minute London Experiences for English Wine Week!

29 May, 2018

Londoners are often so last-minute. I know, because I am one! If you haven’t had a chance to book some time to tour the country and make the most of the national events for English Wine Week (27th May – 4th June), here are some places to go to in London for some English wine, food & fun…

Ridgeview wine pairing set menu dinner at Simpsons on the Strand

Classic London venue Simpsons on the Strand has put together a four course, ‘Bill of Fare’ food and wine pairing menu, expertly paired with quintessentially British ingredients and Ridgeview sparkling wines from Sussex. Try Jersey Rock Oysters with Ridgeview Blanc de Blancs, then a Dorset Crab Salad matched with Ridgeview Cavendish, followed by Slow-Cooked Gressingham Duck Breast (a Simpson’s signature dish!) with the Ridgeview Blanc de Noirs, and finally Simpson’s Cranachan for dessert with the stunning Rosé de Noirs. Menu is priced at £120. It’s a great chance to try these top-end wines by the glass.

Dates: All week. See more here.

London Wine takeover in Clapham & Streatham with Blackbook Winery

The brand new, Blackbook winery in Battersea (so new, they’re not even open to the public yet!) is participating in two events for English Wine Week where they’ll be pouring their rosé in bar takeovers in Clapham and Streatham in South London, and pouring their award-winning (yes, already!) rosé. One of England’s newest wine producers, Blackbook winery was established in 2017 in Battersea business estate and is the the first project of winemaker Sergio Verrillo and his wife, Lynsey, who did a series of vintage in some of the world’s top producers (Ata Rangi in New Zealand, Flowers in California and De Montille in Burgundy), before setting up Blackbook to concentrate on a premium urban winery with a focus on premium wines made with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Dates: Clapham on Weds 30th May and Streatham on 1st June. See more about Blackbook here.

English Wine & Cheese Trio at Searcys, St Pancras

Searcys Champagne bar at St Pancras is famous for its wine flights; to celebrate English Wine Week, they are pouring a trio of fantastic English Fizzes, matched with cheese. Taste Greyfriars Cuvée Brut, NV from Surrey, Nyetimber Classic Cuvée, Brut, NV from Sussex and Furleigh Estate, Blanc de Noirs, Brut, 2014 from Dorset. Price per flight of wines: £19.50 for 3 x 50cl sample glasses.

Dates: Until 4th June. See more and book here.

The Coral Room, Bloomsbury: English wines with a retro twist

One of our favourite cocktail bars in London also happens to champion English wine, with an extensive choice of English sparkling wines by the bottle and a dedicated, rotating menu of English Sparkling wine options by the glass. Taste a selection of small plates as you soak up the delightfully opulent atmosphere at one of London’s newest and most glamourous establishments.

Dates: Always. See more here.
