After an overwhelmingly positive response to their English language coverage of the wine region of Catalunya, Catalunya Wine have expanded their offering to include an online shop for European clients.
“Based on our success and rapidly increasing reach, we had several smaller vineyards ask if we could assist them in marketing their varieties. Most didn’t have the bottling volume to attract interest outside of Spain, so it provided us with an opportunity,” states co-founder, Michael.
The combination of video interviews of winemakers and wine industry members, coupled with written articles and compelling photo galleries made the additional opportunity of linking a purchasing option to the coverage a great proposition for the website and the winemakers.
“The vineyards we’ve visited are looking for unique opportunities to differentiate themselves in the marketplace. In fact the response has been so positive, we’ve had to create a subdomain in order to manage the shop professionally and properly,” commented co-founder Timmer.
Catalunyawine.com has chosen Seur as their shipping agent for the venture, citing their solid track record for wine shipping, along with the favourable weight rates across Europe.
“We’ve incorporate a flat rate based upon weight, which means there is a benefit for those wanting to order more than just one case, as it’s only €55 for three cases (18 bottles) of wine anywhere in Europe,” continued Timmer.
The shop also is using Paypal as its payment engine, in order to ensure safe transactions and additional protection for the consumer.
Catalunyawine.com will be rapidly expanding beyond the six vineyards and 25 varieties currently offered, and will be adding new wineries and varieties on a weekly basis. While currently offering only full cases of product, they will be expanding to mixed offerings as the venture continues.
