Itinerary
Day 1: Following collection from Lyon St. Exupery Airport, you will be taken to the superb Relais & Chateaux hotel, La Pyramide in Vienne on the River Rhone. La Pyramide is one of the most important and historically significant restaurants in France and is owned and run by passionate Chef Patrick Henriroux who holds 2 Michelin stars.
You will receive an introduction to the tour to run through the wine recommendations for each restaurant and to provide information on the villages of Condrieu, Ampuis (Cote Rotie), Tain l’Hermitage and Chateauneuf du Pape, the key producers, wines and vintages.
Next, discover the vineyards of Condrieu, and visit a leading Condrieu Domaine for a wine tasting.
Enjoy a delicious dinner at Michelin star restaurant Domaine de Clairefontaine. Here, Chef Philippe Girardon creates gorgeous refined and subtle dishes sourcing local ingredients (fruits and vegetable from less than 1km from the restaurant) and sommelier Dominique Viala has developed an interesting cellar.
Day 2: Head off to Ampuis to see the vineyards of Cote Rotie and enjoy a wine tasting at a leading estate.
Lunch will be at the Beau Rivage situated on the River Rhone in Condrieu, where Chef Ludovic Mounier combines the best of Lyonnais and Provencal cuisine producing delicious dishes.
Following lunch, continue the exploration of Condrieu and Cote Rotie with a visit to another leading estate in Ampuis, where you will be able to compare and contrast some more Cote Roties.
Enjoy dinner and an amazing gourmet experience in Patrick Henriroux’s gourmet 2 Michelin star restaurant, which also has an amazing collection of gems in the cellar.
Day 3: Discover Tain l’Hermitage, admire the famous hill of Hermitage and enjoy a wine tasting at a top Domaine.
Enjoy lunch at the iconic Maison Pic, a bastion of gastronomy since 1889 where Anne-Sophie Pic (3 Michelin stars) brings a wealth of culinary inspirations to create some of the most beautiful, fragrant dishes demonstrating such finesse, each essentially a work of art. Wine Director Denis Bertrand will cater to your wine needs.
Next, discover the fabulous Relais & Chateaux Hotel the Chateau de Rochegude, about 10km north of the Roman city of Orange. The Chateau de Rochegude is a magnificent 12th Century fortress set in beautiful grounds surrounded by the Cote du Rhone vineyards.
Visit Le Beaugravière in Mondragon where Guy Julien’s twin passions of truffles and wine await. Here, there are no obvious visual signs of frills and spills and is in many ways a throwback to the great regional restaurants of France 50 years ago. Don’t be deceived, M Jullien may be supremely humble, but the exceptional treasures held in the four cellars under the restaurant and shown in his 50 page handwritten wine list most definitely are not! His food is also superb based on top-quality local ingredients.
Day 4: Drive to Chateauneuf du Pape to look at the vineyards and visit a leading estate for a tasting.
Enjoy a delicious lunch in the pretty wine village of Gigondas at l’Oustalet, jointly owned by Laurent Deconinck (who previously worked with Pierre Gagniere, Michel Rostaing and Raymond Blanc) and the Perrin family, owners of Chateau Beaucastel. Not surprisingly, the list is chock-full of fabulous wines covering the gamut of top Chateauneuf du Pape and much more. The food is a mix of contemporary and classic Provencal cuisine using superbly sourced local ingredients.
After lunch, visit the beautiful Roman city of Orange that boasts an incredible Amphitheatre built in the early part of the first Century AD and the triumphal arch both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Your final dining experience will be in the hotel’s gastronomic restaurant Roche Aigué run by Chef Thierry Frebout, who turns out excellent dishes using top quality local ingredients including black truffles. You will also find some excellent bottles to finish the exploration of the best wines from the Rhone.
Day 5: Drive back to Lyon-Saint Exupery airport which will take around 2 hours.
Please note:
Wines at restaurants are not included, but you will be given recommendations prior to the tour on a variety of wines that your guide believes you should select at each restaurant. The selections are based primarily on the following:

Developing tasting themes (e.g. a comparison of top Condrieu, Cote Rotie Vs Hermitage)
What was previously tasted (to avoid repetition)
Location of restaurant
Finding bargains where prices in the restaurant are less than market value
Ensuring they work with the food.
