5-Day Premium Wine Tasting Tour of Slovenia

This 5-day wine tour of Slovenia is tailored for those who would like to know more about Slovenian terroir and wine, meet the winemakers and enjoy superb Slovenian gastronomy. 

Day 1: Arrive in Ljubjana and settle into your hotel before enjoying a walk through the old town which is highlighted by the works of the great architect, Jože Plečnik.  

Enjoy Ljubljana's beautiful historic centre, contained within a sprawling pedestrian zone that flanks both sides of the willow-lined Ljubljanica River, with cafés and restaurants, magnificent Baroque buildings and bridges.

Have dinner at a local restaurant and spend the night in the city. 

Day 2: After breakfast, drive to the Vipava valley which is known for its indigenous grape varieties: Pinela, Zelen and Klarnica and enjoy a wine tasting.  

Next, there will be a privately guided visit to the picturesque stone village of Goče where the charming owner of a well-preserved traditional estate will prepare an unforgettable culinary experience accompanied by a wine degustation whilst you enjoy the view of the valley. 

Dinner and overnight in Goriska Brda wine region.

Day 3: Brda is Slovenia's most famous wine district, located between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, where winemakers are the true attraction. 

Your first stop of the day will be at a beekeeping tourist farm in Brda where you will have a tour and taste various products. 

The day continues with a visit to a wine cellar with excellent wines where you will have a tasting paired with delicious food prepared by the winemaker. 

Later in the day you will enjoy an olive oil tasting and local delicacies. You will also have time to visit the Gonjače lookout tower with its superb view over the vineyards, cherry orchards and olive trees. 

You will also visit Smartno, a walled settlement filled with narrow streets and artisan shops selling seasonal local food and crafts. 

Dinner and a second wine tasting will be served at another premium Slovenian wine estate.  Overnight in Brda.

Day 4: Today you will make your way towards the wine region of the Karst plateau where the dominant wine varieties are Vitovska, a white wine, and Teran, a red wine. Your introduction to  Karst wine  will be at the Prosciutto drying facility to taste the fine Karst prosciutto accompanied by dark red indigenous wine Teran.

You will also visit Štanjel and explore the picturesque hill village with rows of stone houses. The preserved Štanjel medieval architecture is an excellent example of how people used to protect themselves against the harsh climate. 

After lunch you will meet a winemaker who is famous for his orange wines and learn about his philosophy of natural winemaking. After enjoying a wine tasting you will visit Skocjan caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site. These spectacular caves are home to the world’s largest known underground river canyon and a natural phenomenon of global importance. 

Farewell dinner and overnight in Ljubljana.

Day 5: After breakfast check out of your hotel and transfer to Ljubljana or any other airport.
