Description

Discover the fine wines of cool climate vineyards in the Elgin area of the Western Cape with this bespoke full day tour.

You will visit up to six wineries in the Elgin wine region. Whilst lunch is to your own preference your wine guide will recommend and arrange a lunch venue for you.

The Elgin region has around 800 hectares of vines divided among 16 farms, most of which are conveniently close to each other making for easy visiting. Their wines are, quite simply, somewhat different from their 'lowland' neighbours. They benefit from the region's cooler terroir with an elegance and finesse that typifies handcrafted wines.

Mark Tanner

I moved to Franschhoek in the Cape Winelands in 1981 and was immediately influenced by the surrounding vineyards and ever present wine activities. In 1982 and 1983, I completed wine courses with KWV, in those days in parallel with the Cape Wine Academy and began working on a wine estate selling valley wines and hosting private functions. From there I worked for two other wine estates with a focus on international trade. This brought me in contact with the international wine market and led to invitations to judge at the International Wine Challenge in London. With numerous contacts I found myself visiting other wine producing countries including France, Italy, Germany, Austria and later, California. Today I am a tour guide specialising in wine tours for foreign visitors and private tours in the Franschhoek Valley.
