Tour Overview
Würzburg is an ancient episcopal seat and a vibrant university town with a baroque, distinctly southern feel. It is in an idyllic setting surrounded by vineyards and is defined by its architectural splendours that reflect a range of epochs.
Art, culture and Franconian wine are a way of life in Würzburg – they impart a Mediterranean joie de vivre. Würzburg’s main places of interest are the magnificent prince bishops’ Residenz Palace, an impressive example of Mediterranean baroque architecture, and the mighty Marienberg Citadel. The works of famous artists such as Tilman Riemenschneider, Balthasar Neumann and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo can be seen everywhere, and the tomb of medieval minnesinger, Walther von der Vogelweide, is also here.
This guided walking tour covers many of the sights that illustrate the city's history: the Alte Mainbrücke (Old Main River bridge) with a beautiful view on the Fortress Marienberg and the Käppele pilgrimage church, the historic town hall, the Neumünster with the Lusamgärtchen and the Market Square.
In addition, you will be guided through the Wuerzburg Residence, an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981. During the tour your local guide will show you the best wine bars in Wuerzburg.
After the tour let’s say it in Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s words: “Life is too short to drink bad wine.”
Enjoy 5 carefully selected Franconian wines during your self-guided wine tasting tour: Silvaner, Müller- Thurgau, Riesling, Bacchus and Scheurebe are just a few of the numerous grape varieties that are grown here in Franconia. Sample five exquisite Franconian wines in some of Wuerzburgs most beautiful wine taverns and wine bars. The Würzburg Wine Pass consists of five vouchers and a map showing all partner outlets. Any participating outlet redeems one voucher. You choose five outlets (out of seven) and treat yourself to their individually selected wines. Reservations at the wine taverns and wine bars are not necessary.
