Description

Discover the Cooperative Winery of Espolla, one of the winemaking companies with the longest tradition in the Alt Empordà county, founded in 1931 by a group of winemakers seeking to enhance the quality of their products and to improve their commercialization.

Throughout the years, a constant spirit of improvement has allowed the winery to preserve a traditional spirit in the growing of vineyards and elaboration of wine to make it compatible with a progressive incorporation of the best technological advancements.

In addition to gaining new members, the cooperative has increased the diversity of the terrains and soils of its estates, now possessing granite, clay and slate soils at altitudes of up to 150 metres. The proximity of the Mediterranean sea, the buttresses of the Albera Massif and the dry tramuntana (north wind) together shape a landscape and environment in which traditional Empordà grape varieties grow alongside other more recently incorporated ones.

The Cooperative Winery Espolla is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves which are part of the Albera Natural Park. The winery building, inaugurated in 1931, is of historical interest.
