Espelt Viticultors

Wine is made in the vineyard

Product ID: 54045
Description

Discover Espelt Viticultors, a winery opened in 2000, equipped with state-of-the-art technology devoted to the production of wine, located in Costa Brava. Concrete and glass frame the modernity and innovation that define this emerging winery which owns 200 hectares of vineyards from Rabós to Roses.

Espelt Viticultors is a project run by Anna, the latest in a line of many generations of Empordà farmers. Her family comes from an area with weak soil, where only vineyards and olive groves could flourish, and she continues to harvest these crops to this day.

For Anna, the vineyard is a lifelong project where things move slowly: there is just one harvest per year, and decisions are made on a thirty-year time-scale. Respect for the land is one of the foundations of her work. Getting the most out of the soil means maintaining a balance and taking care of the ecosystem; that's why 80 ha of the vineyards are already organic, and her plan is to extend this to the rest of the land.

Her ultimate goal is to make wines that reflect the land they come from: granite and slate soils, the tramuntana north wind and the Mediterranean sun, and the character of the people who have watched the vines grow. But what she finds most satisfying is when wine drinkers enjoy her products and feel tempted to enjoy yet another glass, choosing her wines to celebrate big or small moments of happiness together.

Wine lovers can visit the century-old vines in Rabós, at the foothills of the Albera Nature Park. Or discover the organic vineyards and conservation project that looks over the sea from the Cap de Creus Nature Park. And why not enjoy breakfast or lunch surrounded by vines and the typical Mediterranean landscape, before tasting the Espelt wines?

Touring the winery, guests have the opportunity to observe the production process of its entire range of wines. Specifically, visiting the vinification and ageing rooms gives one a clear sense of the connection between tradition and innovation characteristic of this winery.

Visits end with a tasting of some of the firm's products. Tasting rooms as well as corridors and hallways are also utilised for art exhibitions featuring the paintings and photographs of different artists. Guests can also visit the winery's store and buy some of its products.

Espelt winery is a welcoming place, which enjoys sharing the passion with anyone looking to discover the art and culture of this corner of the world.
