La Vinyeta is a personal project started from zero by Josep and Marta started in 2002 when they were still studying. They were twenty years old when they met an old winegrower who was looking to sell his 50 and 80 years old vineyards. Josep and Marta bought 4 hectares of old vines located in Mollet de Peralada and they also asked him to help. He gave them the passion for the old culture and they maintained those vineyards and planted some more until they build La Vinyeta winery in 2006.

Nowadays they are cultivating 60 organic hectares most of them old bush vines. Some are over a hundred years old. The main grapes are Garnatxa (red, white and ‘roja’) and Carinyena (red and white).

In 2003 they recovered the magical, centuries-old olive grove known as the Olivar Fosc (the “Dark Grove”), a plantation of olive trees of the Argudell variety – autochthonous to the Empordà – that earned its name from the fact that, until its recovery, no sunlight entered it. Recollections and laughter live on in the memory of the old people from the village of Mollet de Peralada who still remember how they played hide-and-seek there. The extra virgin oil made from its olives has an intense green colour due to early harvesting. Intense, fruity aromas of fresh-cut grass. A pleasant, spicy taste in the mouth and an interesting bitterness.

In 2007 the winery released their first wines, starting with young white and rosé wines that they called Heus, a word that begins all stories in Catalan, similar to “once upon a time”. They followed those with aged reds Llavors, translated to “And Then” and, finally, Punt i Apart, “New Chapter”. By 2008 their wines were already winning awards.

In the space of just a few years La Vinyeta has received numerous compliments and has earned the appreciation of many visitors drawn to the winery by a very personal service. Come to discover the story of Josep and Marta and combine it with a picnic lunch or a traditional Catalan breakfast.
