Barone Pizzini

Discover the first winery to adopt organic farming as a requirement for quality

Product ID: 27080
Description

Discover the Barone Pizzini winery, the first winery in Franciacorta to believe that organic farming was essential for producing high-quality wines.
Barone Pizzini was founded in 1870 by the noble Hapsburg family of the same name. At the end of the 1990s they began converting all of the vineyards to certified organic viticulture. To protect and feed the plants they use only substances that are found in nature or can be obtained through simple processes without the use of herbicides, fertilisers or chemically-synthesised pesticides. Everything in the vineyard and the cellar is designed to guarantee the integrity of the fruit.
In 2007 the new cellar was inaugurated, built according to important criteria of eco-friendly architecture. All stages of production are carried out with the lowest possible impact on the environment and energy consumption, thus allowing the terroir and the mood of each vineyard to be expressed to the fullest.
To control greenhouse gas emissions, Barone Pizzini is one of the first companies in Franciacorta to start a carbon offsetting project that measures their wine’s carbon footprint on the planet.
