Di Filippo Winery

Winery in the heart of Umbria, using certified organic and biodynamic methods

Product ID: 42922
Description

Discover Di Filippo winery, resting on sun drenched hills between Torgiano and Montefalco, in the heart of Umbria.
The Di Filippo family has been a part of the history of this corner of Umbria. Italo Di Filippo gave life to a company which has become a symbol of the region. Roberto and Emma, his son and daughter, have now made this family name known worldwide.
The 30 hectares of vineyards are ideally located on sunny hillsides midway between Torgiano and Montefalco. The splendid town of Assisi lies on the other side of the valley, yet seems to embrace the vineyards as their protector.
With a tradition of cultivation which respects nature, the Di Filippo family strongly believes in the need to find a constant balance between man, soil, flora and fauna. As a result, they adopt organic cultivation which respects the laws of biodynamic farming.
Passion, respect and love are the three forces which drive the Di filippo family in their daily lives beside the vineyards. Passion for their work, respect for the soil and love for the family tradition of cultivating the vineyards from which they produce wines that express the nature of the soil.

As Roberto and Emma Di Filippo explain "It’s important to practise biodynamic and organic cultivation, because it is advantageous for everyone: it is healthy and beneficial for the environment. You can save on costs and support people by giving them work, and get excellent results". This is why they are running the "One Goose Revolution" project, in collaboration with the University of Agriculture in Perugia, an experimental vineyard of four hectares worked entirely with horses and geese.
Visiting wine lovers will discover the Di Filippo family's passion for the land, the vineyards and the wine. Enjoy the breathtaking view of Assisi, the peace of the location, and the style with which you are invited to try the Di Filippo wines and fully appreciate the atmosphere and philosophy of a slow way of life.
Guided tours of the winery are available. The path takes you through the phases of production: starting in the vineyard, the philosophy of the production, oriented to organic and biodynamic farming, is explained. From there move to the areas of winemaking, wine-ageing and the bottling line. The tour concludes with a wine tasting accompanied by a board of typical local products.
Visitors can also enjoy a relaxing trip by coach and horse to discover the philosophy behind organic cultivation and the vineyards “of geese and horses".
