Hotel overview

Castello di Vicarello, listed as one of the world’s best hotels in Conde Nast Traveller’s 2019 Gold List, is a 12th-century luxury castle hotel nestled in the untouched Tuscan region of Maremma. Positioned halfway between Rome and Florence, the property boasts sweeping views over rolling Tuscan hills towards the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Thoughtful and personalised service attracts discerning travellers looking for an authentic Tuscan experience. Castello di Vicarello offers a choice of nine creatively appointed suites, two swimming pools (one set amongst an olive grove; the other perched on a mountainside), two kitchen gardens, and exquisite terraces surrounded by 40 hectares of vineyards and olive groves — where guests can also experience massage treatments set in pure Tuscan nature.

The characterful yet contemporary design, family-run castle retreat captures the charm of a bygone era, yet with modern influences exuding a luxurious, yet home from home feel. The head chef and team create wholesome Italian cuisine, using generations-old recipes and ingredients from the organic gardens and local farmers produce.

The castle has nine suites, sensitively restored and elegantly decorated, featuring original stone and brick walls, a tasteful mélange of antique and modern furniture, and an oriental touch stemming from the Baccheschi Berti family’s years spent in Indonesia.

Guests at Vicarello can sample award-winning wines from organic grapes grown and harvested on Castello di Vicarello’s estate
