Description

Discover a new and vibrant wine industry with this amazing day trip! Ideal for foodies and wine aficionados, this small-group tour of Nova Scotia’s pretty wine-centric destination is led by a local guide. You’ll ride in a comfortable vehicle to the stunningly beautiful Annapolis Valley to visit three award-winning wineries for tours and tastings.

Nova Scotia has been growing grapes since the early 1600s but the commercial wine industry didn’t begin until the late 1970s. A unique cool-climate wine region, the grapes grown here were mostly of the hybrid sort, bred for our cooler conditions. With a growing season similar to Champagne, sparkling wines have taken off in the last ten years, winning awards at Effervescents du Monde and other notable competitions. In recent years, a push to growing vinifera varietals has created some wonderfully crisp Rieslings and Chardonnays alongside our unique varietals such as L’Acadie Blanc, Ortega and Geisenhiem 318.

Your first stop is at the Planters Ridge Winery in Port Williams with a bucolic country setting featuring a 150-year-old restored barn. Your tour here focuses on the winemaking process, from harvesting grapes to bottling wine.

Laila North

I've been in the wine industry in Canada since 2000, first working in a wine shop and then as a sales representative for E&J Gallo Wines. I moved to Nova Scotia, Canada in 2008 and discovered a vibrant and exciting wine industry and created the first wine tour company in Nova Scotia. I love my province and our wines and want to share them with the world!
