Tour Overview
The Wachau Valley—Austria’s most famous wine region along the Danube River—is just one hour away from Vienna. This full-day, small group tour explores this scenic wine producing region by bicycle. Spend the day learning about Austria’s wine and history, sampling the wines and meeting new friends.
Depart from Vienna by train to Krems, the starting point for your bicycle ride. The journey begins on flat paths surrounded by terraced vineyards to the picture-postcard town of Durnstein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will enjoy your first wine tasting of the day and climb the ancient medieval ruins of Durnstein Castle for panoramic views over the town and surrounding vineyards.
Lunch will be at a traditional local restaurant before getting back on your bike and peddling towards Weissenkirchen. Your afternoon ride will take you through beautiful countryside and charming Austrian villages, punctuated with a second wine tasting in Weissenkirchen at a family-owned wine tavern.
Continue cycling to Krems where you will board the train for your return journey to Vienna.
