Tour Overview
This private 4 Day Wine, Food and Culture package is perfect for a long weekend in Athens and offers a tasty introduction to Greek cuisine, wine and culture.
Day 1: Welcome to Athens!
On arrival at Athens international airport you will be met by your driver and head to Athens city centre. Your destination is a local delicatessen shop where you will enjoy your first tasty introduction to Greek food and culture with a local expert. Then transfer to your hotel where the rest of your day is free at leisure.
Day 2: Guided neighbourhood walk, Parthenon tour, Gastronomic experience
After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide for a walking tour through old Athenian neighbourhoods for a glimpse into local life. Continue on to the iconic temple of the Parthenon for a guided tour. Then proceed to the Acropolis museum where there will be time to enjoy the surrounding area and admire the views. The perfect spot for a glass of wine or a Greek beer!
In the late afternoon, join an Athenian food expert on a delicious journey through the local gastronomy. Learn about the local olive oil and taste the different cultivars from various regions around Greece. Sample Greek street food such as souvlaki and finally satisfy your appetite with a sticky finger-licking good baklava and special ice cream. All these will be accompanied with a glass of Greek wine.
Day 3: Tour of the Attica region wineries
Today is devoted to the Attica region and its wineries. The Mesogaia valley, a mere 30km from downtown Athens, is covered with over 650 hectares of vines. The Mesogaia vineyard, defined by Mount Pendeli to the north and Hymettus to the south, has been the capital’s purveyor of inexpensive, everyday wine for centuries. The region is known for Retsina Greek wine, which is now considered to be one of the most interesting grapes Greece has to offer. It is still the number one crop in the prefecture of East Attica, which is also famous for its royal figs and high-quality pistachios.
During this tour you will visit one of the most important wineries in East Attica. You will be guided to the vineyards and learn about the wine production procedure. Return to your hotel in the early afternoon.
Day 4: Departure
After breakfast at the hotel you will be transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight.
