Tour Overview
Day 1 – Sabrosa - on the way to the Douro Wine Region and its famous vineyards
The Douro River will be the perfect backdrop for your tour, heading into the interior of Portugal and enjoying the atmosphere of small towns and villages. Today you will arrive in Sabrosa.
Day 2 - Sabrosa – the essence of the Douro Region with its splendid scenery, vineyards and olive groves
The best way to get to know the Douro region is to walk among the vineyards and olive trees that grow around the river. The landscape is dotted with fantastic estates that offer authentic experiences to enjoy the rest and gastronomy of the region.
Day 3 - Provesende – village of baroque and neoclassic manor houses
The Douro landscape, a real postcard of the region, sets the rhythm. The terraces of the Douro, "sculpted" by men who found a solution to the aridity of the region, made it the first demarcated wine region in the world. This is how the "cascade" that so characterises the region is presented.
Day 4 - Ucanha – vineyards and olive groves landscapes and the town of Pinhão
In Pinhão, considered the epicentre of the origin of the famous port wine, you can find many of the Quintas where the main houses of this charismatic wine were based. But your adventure in this town goes much further: combine a visit to the 19th century train station, whose tiled walls pay homage to the economic activities of the Douro, with a cruise on a typical rabelo boat, which will take you to the tranquillity of a village in the region.
Day 5 - Ucanha – mountain villages and superb medieval heritage
Enjoy the tranquillity of the village of Ucanha, stroll along the riverbank and admire the small farms and pine forests from the waterfalls. Follow your tour to the Monastery of Salzedas, an imposing 12th century building. After this walk you can refresh yourself in two ways: on the river beach of Ucanha, to which you can add, as an option, a visit and tasting in one of the sparkling wine cellars that best knows how to keep its secrets.
Day 6 - Lamego, a city of monuments in the Douro Region
With its origins lost in time, it is now travelling to Lamego. Here the heritage and historic buildings will immediately jump out at you. The cathedral, which you'll reach by walking through fantastic gardens, will be a test of your physical endurance, climbing almost 700 steps, but the view is worth the effort.
Day 7 - Cambres, along the Pilgrims’ Way to Santiago de Compostela and historic wineries
Back in the scenery of the Douro and its Quintas, we've saved for you the Camino de Santiago de Compostela - Portugal's interior route. You'll be able to experience a little of the emotional intensity and significance of the pilgrimage.
The best way to take the aromas of the Douro with you will be to enjoy a unique wine tasting experience at one of the oldest producers in the region, in a 16th century Quinta.
Day 8 - Porto | UNESCO World Heritage city, world-famous for Port Wine
On your last day of this tour, we've saved a visit to Porto, a UNESCO heritage city, where the architecture, the typical neighbourhoods, the people and traditions, combined with its very own gastronomy and wines, are more than enough reasons to want to return
