Fonseca: Port Cellar Visit & Wine Tasting

Immerse yourself into the world of Port Wine in a self-guided tour through the 200-year-old cellars of Fonseca.

Discover the history of one of the most prestigious Port wine houses in the world and learn about the production process of Port Wine – from its origin in the Douro Valley and Quinta do Panascal, where Fonseca’s port wine is born, to its aging process and even sustainable winemaking practices.

End your visit with a commented tasting of the signature Fonseca Bin 27 Port, or 1 glass of grape juice from the Douro Valley (for children).

There is an option to add a return ticket for the Douro River Taxi which is the quickest way to cross the Douro river to the Port wine cellar district in Vila Nova de Gaia. Boats sail from either side of the river every 10 minutes. It departs from here on Porto side. Inspired by the design of the traditional Rabelos that in days gone by transported Port wine from the heart of the Douro Valley to the cellars of Porto, our two boats, ‘Serra do Pilar’ and ‘Casa do Infante’, are 20 metres long and can transport 28 people across the river in comfort and safety.
