Cepas de la Culebra

A hidden gem in Zamora with a surprising mix of wines

Product ID: 54489
Description

Cepas de la Culebra is a hidden gem to be found in Zamora, a region largely unknown but nevertheless hiding incredible treasures waiting to be discovered. Every family within the village has its own vineyard, which has up until now traditionally been used to produce wine for family consumption, and therefore are old, small plots that are generally vine trained.

The main grapes you will find in most of the vineyards are the Mencia grapes which originally came from French Cabernet Franc grapes, and were brought to Léon in Spain through Camino de Santiago. Other red varietals include a small number of Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes, and Palomino white grapes, which were recently in order to produce a larger volume of wine and to create a lighter, fresher structure in the wines made.

Through a tasting at Cepas de la Culebra, you will get to know all the radically different wines in the special atmosphere of a traditional, old house, which will have a fire lit to add extra atmosphere if you go in the winter time. You will get to taste both red and white wine...

Through a tasting at Cepas de la Culebra, you will get to know all the radically different wines in the special atmosphere of a traditional, old house, which will have a fire lit to add extra atmosphere if you go in the winter time. You will get to taste both red and white wine with hops, blue wine, red wine that has been aged in oak, and a young red. However, as Cepas de la Culebra is so innovative you may find other surprises waiting for you when you arrive! Each wine will be paired with local food such as ham, chorizo, and cheese etc and throughout the tasting you will learn all about the backstory behind each of the wines, the wine region and the ancient traditions it still maintains today that are part of its cultural inheritance, and what makes Cepas de la Culebra such a stand out winery.
