Discover Mont Rochelle winery, located in the town of Franschhoek in South Africa, just under an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Franschhoek is a traditional vineyard town in the Western Cape Province famously known as the French Corner of the Cape and is considered to be the food and wine capital of South Africa.
Mont Rochelle's vineyards are cultivatated with grapes of the Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties amongst a few others. The vineyards are situated between 250m and 400m above sea level on north and north east facing slopes exposing the grapes to a range of micro climates.
Mont Rochelle organises wine tastings in a variety of locations, including its Miko restaurant, at the bar, at the Country Kitchen and in the wine cellar. Mont Rochelle has been awarded the Vineyard of the Year 2018 in South Africa at the Luxury Travel Guide Food & Drink Awards.
Guests can also visit the 150 year old wine cellar which was previously used as a fruit packing shed for the early settlers. Since being converted to a traditional wine cellar it can now process close to 150 tons of grapes in a season, and these smaller volumes afford more concentration on quality rather than quantity. Stainless steel tanks aid in the making of the crisp clean whites, while barrels are favoured for the red wine making.
Mont Rochelle also offers accommodation in the stunning 26-bedroom hotel.
There are two restaurants at Mont Rochelle: Miko and the Country Kitchen. Miko is our main restaurant and is the setting for some fantastic gourmet meals including those for special occasions. Adjacent to the winery is the Country Kitchen, an ideal spot for a light lunch. The kitchen can arrange a well-stocked picnic basket with a chilled bottle of wine (or two).
