Winery Overview
Discover Atha Ruja, a family-owned winery located in the town of Dorgali, on the central eastern coast of Sardinia.
The Atha Ruja company was not established on a basis of "love at first sight" but from the development of a rich tradition of wine, spanning back two generations in time. Pietro Pittalis and Anita Salis, have made, by a shared passion and choice, a dream become a reality.
The winery specialises in producing high-quality wines from three typical grapes: ?Grenache (here uniquely developed as Cannonau), Carignano and Bovale Sardo.? All three represent the most famous red varieties of our island and have been selected out as autochthonous clones from cru areas in Sardinia territory.
Atha Ruja's viticulture is based on quality cultivation principles, such as short pruning, leaf-stripping and selective thinning, which limit production and improve the variety characteristics of Cannonau, Carignano and Bovale Sardo grapes.? Grapes are grown without the use of pesticides and the vines are managed for low yields and premium quality, according to biodynamic principles and intending the vineyard as a small ecosystem.
Atha Ruja philosophy is that a "great wine" must come first and foremost from a passion for one’s work. It is the true reason which drives the vision and talent towards the achievement of goals and towards excellence. One must love nature intimately in order to ask for a respectful balance and then obtain the desired fruit. One should not over-exploit the generosity of the land beyond that which it can obviously grant.
The Atha Ruja cellar is located near the urban centre of Dorgali on the summit of a hill facing the whiteness of the Supramonte. Here, the the sunset offers an enchanting scenery of colorful lights that surround the peaks of Mount Corrasi. The building was originally used as a holding and breeding barn.
The winery also offers luxury accommodation in the charming village of Cala Gonone, to any visiting wine lover making it the perfect base for discovering Drogali, its multiplicity of landscapes, and the interesting sites nearby.
Wine lovers can discover Atha Ruja wines with a sommelier who will act as a guide in the tasting the winery's great quality wines in the cottage situated in the midst of an active vineyard and finely equipped according to the typical Sardinian style. They will be presented with three selections, starting from the entry label up to the top range, with the aim to reveal the higher complexity and organoleptic consistency.
