Winery Overview
Discover Quinta do Monte d'Oiro, located in the Lisbon wine region of Alenquer.
Known since the 17th century for its privileged terroir, Quinta do Monte d'Oiro rests on clay-limestone soils and has a strong Atlantic influence (the property is only 20 km away from the ocean), where the wind blows permanently. These characteristics have shown over the years to enhance the wines with great freshness, elegance and balance.
This family wine project was the dream of renowned gastronomist José Bento dos Santos’, owner of a rare wine collection with some of the greatest wines in the world and great admirer of Côte du Rhône wines.
With viticulture based on plot management, the vineyard is 100% certified organic and the operations aim at very low yield production. In the winery, the rigorous vinification processes are a priority, using the best French oak barrels for wine ageing.
Since the first harvest in 1997, the wines have been consistently awarded with prizes and achievements in Portugal and around the globe.
When arriving at Quinta do Monte d’Oiro, the guests are introduced to the organic production philosophy, through both the vineyard and winery. The awaited wine tasting takes place at the tasting room with a magnificent view over the barrel ageing cellar. This is where all the red wines are “raised”, protected by two large sculptures: The Skill and The Art, two major principles which drive Quinta do Monte d’Oiro’s production.
