Discover 2 beautiful châteaux: a Great Classified Growth estate and a charming family-run estate, steeped in history and the symbol of “French elegance”, with this afternoon wine tour.
This Medoc afternoon small group wine tasting tour leaving from Bordeaux will see you travel along the “châteaux route” and through the vineyards, as far as the eye can see. This specific terroir produces rich red wines, predominantly of the Cabernet Sauvignon grape variety, all of which you'll get to taste.
At 1:45 pm you will leave Bordeaux and drive along the “châteaux route” of the Médoc region, pass by mythical wine country names such as Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe. On your way, the local guide will draw a clearer picture of the Bordeaux wines that are often not very easy to understand with around 7000 châteaux and strict rules and various wine appellations.
The Bordeaux wines you will taste are blends (like all the Bordeaux wines) primarily made from Cabernet Sauvignon, which is King in the area. Cabernet has a powerful and rich taste. Combined with the finesse of the Merlot, it makes beautiful, balanced and complex wines.
The first château you will visit is a Great Classified Growth estate. This is one of the most prestigious châteaux in the region. Here you will be mesmerised by the attention to detail and sense of perfection and dedication to winemaking. The beauty and aesthetic of the place lives up to the quality of the wine.
You will be welcomed in front of the château, learning about the history of the estate, including the main varietals of the Médoc region. You will visit the vat room and wine cellars and learn about the winemaking process, all the way from the vine to the bottle.
Next, your tour includes a Bordeaux wine tasting class where you can become a wine expert in 20 minutes! "Intense color, woody aromas, tannic taste"? You will learn all about it and the steps of a proper wine tasting, learning how to train your nose in order to identify the wine aromas. You will be given tips and tricks to taste like a pro!
At the end of this château visit, you will enjoy a tasting of their wines.
Next up will be the 2nd château visit of the day. Arriving at this charming and authentic family-run estate; you will feel the intimacy and authenticity of a private château and winery run by the same family for several generations. The tour will take you on a visit of the château and its wine cellars, followed by a tasting of the estate’s wines accompanied by an aperitif of traditional french delicacies (fresh bread, cheese, dried sausage).
The wine tour will end at 7:15 pm when you will arrive back to Bordeaux.
