Description

Discover Pomario winery, located in the province of Perugia near Monteleone di Orvieto, on the border between Tuscany and Umbria.
Respecting the environment and maintaining ecological balances have been the guidelines that led to the building of the new Pomario winery. Created from the renovation of a former tool shed, this winery keeps the farmhouse style, and, where possible, the original materials have been reused. The processing systems are equipped with modern environmentally friendly systems for the control of essential parameters for the production of high-quality wines.
The olive mill is located in a very bright room created from the former tool shed. The Olives are processed by a modern continuous cycle cold-press machine that guarantees high-quality extra virgin olive oil. Thanks to this modern technology, the olive crushing can be separated according to the different parcels of the farm and extra virgin olive oil is first divided in batches, waiting to be analysed. Only the best batches are then assembled in the blend that defines the Pomario extra virgin olive oil.

Originally there was only one hectare of vineyard located in the highest part of the property with old varieties of Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The biodiversity present in the old vineyard was very important and, in the first years of operations, Susanna and Giangiacomo Spalletti Trivelli have pledged to recover all the plants by vigorous pruning and careful restoration. Today, three hectares of vineyard are cultivated with Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Malvasia with the addition of 3000 square meters of a clone of Bordeaux Merlot.
In 2010, another 8000 square meters were prepared using the terracing method. Sauvignon and Riesling were planted for the production of a dessert wine called “Muffato”.
Wine lovers can enjoy guided tours of the winery, walks in the vineyards and the olive grove and taste organic wines and olive oils, inlcuding a free tasting.
On the first floor, the bright and cosy tasting room has been designed to enhance the wine tasting experience and to make it even more enjoyable. Moreover, the terrace is the ideal place where visitors can taste wine surrounded by woods, admiring marvellous panoramic views overlooking the hills around Lake Trasimeno and the Tuscan town of Cortona. In the spring and summer months the flowers of the rose garden, which boasts a remarkable collection of ancient varieties, are a gorgeous frame for the walk that leads, from the tasting room, to the old spring and onto the vineyards.
Visiting wine lovers can stay at the Villa Spalletti Trivelli, an elegant, early 20th-century villa, perfectly placed to experience the Eternal City.
Please note: The Perfect Match tour is not to be missed. It includes a guided tour of the winery, the olive mill and a walk in the vineyards, followed by lunch or dinner with 3 course menu paired with wines and olive oil served on the panoramic terrace or in the private tasting room. Tours require booking and are available in Italian, English and in other languages upon request and subject to availability.
