The Planeta family has been deeply involved in Sicilian agriculture for 5 centuries and 17 generations. Their work on the island has contributed to the regeneration of Sicilian winemaking, and the company today cultivates vineyards and olive groves, producing wine and extra virgin olive oil, in five areas of the island from east to west.
Planeta’s Buonivini estate lies in the heart of the Val di Noto, among the late-baroque cities of Noto and Modica, and the seaside villages of Marzamemi and Portopalo di Capo Passero. Founded in 1998, Buonivini (meaning ‘good wines’) was the third, and most challenging, step in the family’s journey towards the discovery and enhancement of Sicilian viticulture.
At Buonivini, the grapes of Moscato di Noto and Nero d’Avola – the prince of Sicilian viticulture - grow together with almonds, carobs and olives, symbolic plants of the Mediterranean location.
The Planeta family have always combined their passion for Sicily with a desire to warmly welcome those who wish to discover it. Because of this their wineries have never merely been places to produce wine but have also been devoted to hospitality, linked to cooking, nature and the local culture.
Visit the winery at Noto and you will experience the uniqueness of the place, the distinctive wines produced there and the beauty of the countryside. A walk through the estate leads to “Palmento”, a place where farmers made wine in the past, and the “Invisible Winery”, an innovative project that expresses a perfect synthesis between respect for the territory, technical requirements and architectural design.
For a full immersion into Sicilian wines, we would recommend visiting all the Planeta wineries. Contact us for an itinerary suggestion and prices.
