Join your private guide with over 20 years’ experience to discover the Grand Cru Classé châteaux of Saint-Émilion, enjoy a château lunch with spectacular views and explore the medieval town.
Your certified wine guide Frederic has a deep passion for wine. He is the son of a wine grower, has more than 20 years’ experience in the world of wine and knows many of the local winemakers personally. There could be no better guide!
Having met Frederic you will begin the day with a visit to Château Laniote, which is located around 1km north-west of Saint-Émilion. This Grand Cru Classé has been owned by the same family for the past two centuries. You will have the opportunity to meet the winemaker, visit the cellars and enjoy a tasting of their fruity red wines.
Continue on to Château Le Chatelet. This small Grand Cru Classe has been operated by the same family for five generations, and produces highly sought after, award winning wine. Take a look at the limestone cave cellars, learn about the richness of the terroir, and taste the different vintages.
Then it is time for lunch in a chateau. There is a choice of two venues: Atelier de Candale has a terrace with breathtaking views of the vineyards; Château de Ferrand has a rather unique tasting room. As you enjoy a meal of local specialities you will be able to ask Frederic any questions you may have about Bordeaux vineyards, the classifications and AOC wine regulations.
In the afternoon, take a sightseeing tour of Saint-Émilion. Discover the impressive underground church, visit the Collegiate Church and its cloister, and enjoy views over the town from the top of the King’s Tower. You will also taste the famous Saint-Émilion "macarons" , that are still made according to a nun's recipe dating back to 1620. Before returning to Bordeaux, finish the day with a final wine tasting of a selection of right bank wines in a wine store.
